The stretch of coast between Galle and Tangalle is lined with palm-fringed bays, fishing villages and small beach towns such as Unawatuna, Weligama, Mirissa and Tangalle. It is generally at its best from about December to April, outside the south-west monsoon.

Boat trips from Mirissa run roughly November to April. Sightings are never guaranteed.
