Planning

When is the best time to visit Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka has two monsoons affecting different coasts at different times, so there is usually somewhere with good weather. In general the south, west and hill country are best from about December to April, and the east coast from about May to September.

How long do I need?

Around ten days to two weeks is a comfortable length for a first trip covering the Cultural Triangle, hill country and coast. Shorter trips work well if you focus on one or two regions.

How do I start planning?

Use our trip planner to tell us your interests, rough dates, group size and anything else that matters to you. Approximate answers are fine.

Can I travel with children?

Yes. Sri Lanka can be a rewarding family destination. Tell us the ages of your children and we can suggest a pace and route with shorter travel days.

Itineraries

Can I customise an itinerary?

Yes. The itineraries on this site are samples to show what is possible. Every trip can be shaped around your interests, travel style and the time you have.

What is a sample itinerary?

A sample itinerary is an example route that shows how places can be combined. It is not a fixed package, and prices, accommodation and inclusions are only confirmed in a personalised proposal.

What is included in a trip?

Inclusions depend on the trip you choose and are set out clearly in your personalised proposal before anything is booked.

Can I combine beaches and wildlife?

Yes. Udawalawe and Yala are within a few hours of the south coast, so safari days and beach days combine naturally.

Travel in Sri Lanka

Where can I check current entry requirements?

Entry and visa rules can change. Please check the official Sri Lankan government immigration website and your own government’s travel advice before you travel.

How do people get around Sri Lanka?

Many visitors use a private car and driver, combined with the scenic hill-country train. Roads are winding, so journeys take longer than distances suggest.

Are wildlife sightings guaranteed?

No. Animals are wild and move freely. Spending more time in a park improves your chances, but no sighting can be guaranteed.

What should I wear at temples?

Cover your shoulders and knees, and remove shoes and hats before entering temple areas.

Inquiries

Is sending an inquiry a booking?

No. Sending an inquiry asks us to prepare a personalised proposal. Nothing is booked and no payment is taken through this website.

What happens after I send an inquiry?

We review your details and reply by email to talk through ideas and next steps. You are under no obligation to book.

How do I request a trip proposal?

Complete the three short steps in our trip planner. If you were looking at a specific itinerary, destination or experience, it will be carried into the planner for you.

How is my information used?

We use the details you send only to reply to your inquiry and help plan your trip. Marketing emails are a separate, optional choice. See our privacy page for more.
