When is the best time to see wildlife in Sri Lanka?

Wildlife can be seen year-round, but the dry months often concentrate animals around water. Some parks, including parts of Yala, may close for a period in the driest months. We check current conditions when planning.

Which animals might I see?

Commonly seen species include elephants, water buffalo, spotted deer, crocodiles and many birds. Leopards and sloth bears are more elusive. No sighting can be guaranteed.

How can I travel responsibly around wildlife?

Choose operators who respect park rules, keep a distance from animals, avoid attractions that involve riding or performing animals, and never feed wildlife.
